After the last unfortunate event I gave it another go and was plonked on the coast at Kamyshovo, right next to a zombie infested village.  Great!  I snuck around, looking for an escape but there was no way out, I resigned myself to the fact I was going to die – again.  Interestingly the zombies spread out, giving me some room and I managed to crawl through into the nearby village, loot a couple houses and grab myself a Makarov with ammo!  WOO!

Wiggled my way out, got up the hillside with a handful of cans and tins, I was happy!  At last I wouldn’t die instantly, I could figure more shit out.

I wandered around a bit and saw I was pretty close to Elektro so I made a beeline for it.  I was taking a risk but to get further I needed to try out the cities, get used to the approach.  Managed to attract no unwanted attention and got into a hotel with 3 floors – inside I found all manner of things, food, bandages, ammunition – twas a gold mine!  Sneaking out I was suitably happy and snaked my way down the high street, just exploring when out of the corner of my eye I see a rifle – a Winchester!  With ammo no less!  Finally a proper gun.  A gun that won’t invite half the continent to my door.

I wiggle out, spy the supermarket and get inside, more food, more gear and a water bottle.  Great!  Whilst I’m here I may as well visit the fire house; inside I find binoculars, more Makarov ammo and bandages.  This is great.  Now I just need a hatchet and a hunting knife, I’ll be pretty much self sufficient, bar needing the occasional visit to the hospital for zombie bites etc.

Next building I get exactly what I need, a hunting knife!  It’s all coming together as I skip out of town and head into the countryside for a hatchet.  It’s slowly getting darker and it’s harder to see, I still need that hatchet or I’m stuck, I will have to go into town for my food and I don’t like that.  In the distance I spot a barn, it’s surrounded by fencing but the back door is open, so I run for it.  Two zombies growl and come lurching towards me – both go down in a second as a Winchester round each takes them down.  I bolt into the barn, and there it is; a hatchet!

Now I have everything, matches, hatchet, hunting knife, weapon with ammo – oh and a gillie suit which I found in the 3 floor hotel.

Hunting is going to be easier now.

I'm bloody hungry!

Unfortunately I can't eat brains, or other people so I must find cans of pasta, meat, etc.

So there I am, blinking red hunger icon, low on blood but with matches, fire wood, and hunting knife.  I run along, hoping to god I find something I can kill and cook.  In the distance I see a sheep, wandering around - jackpot!  I run in, get within 2 feet of it and it fooking despawns!  ARGH!  I think sod it and run towards a group of houses in the distance, I get attacked by loads of them and just throw my arms up in the air and let them kill me.

Grr!  Oh well, alpha is alpha - time to start again!

Ah the smell of a new blog in the morning.  Much like the smell of socks, or the smell of the undead wafting through your bedroom window...

So I welcome you, the reader to a new blog based around the relatively new DayZ mod for ArmA 2.  I will be recanting my adventures, failures, successes, and anything else that springs to mind.

Day 1:

Starting on the coast I have watched enough videos to know that you head inland straight away, so I ran towards the hills nearby and got my head in gear.  The hillside was steep so I found that running left, then right, made me move up it faster, although I suspect I was still moving just as slowly up there, just felt faster...

Making my way inland further I spy a town, only a few buildings but maybe there's some loot.  I sidle in, keeping low, hoping no zombies see me.  I get close to the building, the door's open and I see stuff!  Getting excited as I approach I let my guard down and dart for the door...oops  I start to run away with half a dozen blood munching zomblies on my ass!

It's not long before I get caught as I keep pressing the wrong buttons, keep careering into trees and eventually they get me, eat my face and it's over.  I lasted 15 minutes!

So let's try this shit again!.  Same idea but let's do this a little more cautiously.  I spawn on the coast, no real idea where but guessing southern area.  I make my way inland and find a similar small village and there's a house which I can get in to (there's alarmingly a lot that you can't!).  This time I take more care, I roll into the house, but manage to still aggro some zombies.  I see a hatchet, and I can't pick up said hatchet... they eat me :(

Mmm this is heart rendering.  Okay, deep breaths!  I work inland, and this time I find a house surrounded by zombies BUT this time I take my time.  Moving in slowly I decide to use a flare I found, I throw it, hoping the zombies will fuck off and leave me alone.  Didn't work, they decided I looked more tasty and pounded my face in.

I just could not work out how to evade them.  Then in a pure brilliant moment of thought I realise, line of sight!  So I test the theory.  Grabbing a handful of zombies I scoot off towards the nearest tree line, dodging and weaving in and out of the trees then diving prone - they lost me and I was safe.  So now I knew how it was done I could proceed.

I head into town, move slowly to the house, get inside, find an Enfield, get attacked by a zombie, shoot said zombie and get eaten by thousands who heard my shot from the other side of the map!  The Lee Enfield is not known as the Dinner Bell for nothing.

Fook!  Okay, lesson learned.  One more go.

Coastal spawn, inland, sneak about.  What's this?  An airbase?  Okay, interesting.  I work my way in very slow, and I stay prone all the time.  No zombie aggro.  Mooching about I find food, some water, and a can of Pepsi.  It's a good start, but still no pewpew.  It isn't long though until I find a dead player, with an Enfield...I know how he died, HA!  I take the gun, accidently drop my backpack, can't pick it up and loose some supplies...grr!  Oh but I have a gun now, and some rounds, plus fud and watter.  Important things in this game.

So what does the next day hold?  I don't know, I know I'm low on blood, with no ammo now, and no food - I still have water but really do need fud.  I think it's time to head into Cherno...
